SAH/WOH - Why?

I am sure this has been done before but I was wondering this in light of recent posts lately.

Why did you decide to sah/woh?

Was it a choice or something expected of you?

Was your plan to sah/woh though out or impulsive? Long-term or short-term?

How funny! Mine is a caravan. You can get a lot in it when you take the seats out, but we've never needed to move a refrigerator.

Ok, I'm done. My SUV has pretty much the biggest interior space available, and there are many things I can't fit in there. There are also many things I pull in my trailer that frankly I wouldn't want inside my vehicle. You are basically saying that because *you* can haul everything you need to haul by putting it inside the vehicle, she can, and I can. That's not the case. The argument you are using is not any different than me telling you that you could do everything you need to do if you had a Toyota Corolla. So why don't you?

You criticized me for not mentioning her trailers, but what is it that she's hauling on a regular basis that wouldn't fit in the cargo area of a van? She's never mentioned it. Her real argument all along has been that she needs an suv for work--except she doesn't work and hasn't for 6 years. Now I find out it's really about a boat.

It's not about what I can or can't haul. I've said all along that it's not about comparing people's individual situations; it's about everybody looking at their own situation and doing what they can. For the last time, it's about *not even considering* the environment. She has said numerous times that she hasn't. She will drive what she pleases because it has no effect on anything but her own pocketbook. She will buy two new cars for her teens because it has no effect on anything but her own pocketbook.

Why are you so defensive about this? Are you saying you don't consider the environment at all when you buy cars? Are you driving a bigger car than you need?

I'm not driving a bigger car than I need, but I don't think she is driving a bigger car than she needs either. I think you have decided that she is driving a bigger car than she needs, but I don't think you are in a place to judge that. I'm not defensive, I just don't agree with your assessment. Mentioning the boat and not the trailers is like saying a WOHM is working for luxuries because she works to buy expensive salon treatments when the person mentioned they also work to provide health insurance.

***I'm glad to hear you don't really think being a homebuilder is a good thing for the environment, though.***

No but building homes is a part of the world we live in today. Not many people live in tents. What do you do for a living? Oh and BTW can't a homebuilder be environmentally friendly?

Really? Me saying that it is amazing that all you drive is 7K a year is implying that you are lying? I wonder why you are so defensive. Sorry but saying things like

***Your reading comprehension is pretty poor.
a concept I guess you don't understand***

are personal attacks. Not once have I personally attacked you. If I thought you were lying about your mileage I would have told you that I didn't believe you. That in itself isn't a personal attack. Calling you a liar is. See the difference?

***Snort***

May I ask what that means?

I don't have a Highlander. I have a Sequoia. It is still better than 12 mpg. I get about 15-17 mpg in the city

No the real issue is that I have 2 trailers that we use. I must have a truck or SUV that can pull them. The boat is seasonal.

***That's still no excuse for not thinking about it.***

So let's say I did think about it. I still would have bought the Sequoia. What does that change? No one thing.

Taken out of context, sure that's what she said. I seem to recall she said something like "Noone *needs* a car at all" immediately following that statement.
