SAH/WOH - Why?

I am sure this has been done before but I was wondering this in light of recent posts lately.

Why did you decide to sah/woh?

Was it a choice or something expected of you?

Was your plan to sah/woh though out or impulsive? Long-term or short-term?

She said "I don't need an SUV right now". Which implies she does need it later.

Why is it that you understand it and she doesn't? I have tried and tried. I just don't think she wants to understand. She said she has a Subaru Outback and a Dodge Caravan. Please correct me mom if I am wrong. She only has two kids. Why does one need a station wagon and a minivan with 2 kids? My guess convinence. Why is it ok for her to have both of those and me to have an SUV but I don't need to have something this big? I really don't understand it.

Because people who don't need trucks don't understand why anyone would need a truck. I have a Suburban with a 454 in it, believe me, I've argued this argument 100s of times. LOL

I guess so. Boy she might faint if she knew my DAD has this big Sherrod Van. That sucker is like a house on wheels. He did buy a Toyota Avalon a couple of years ago and drives that the majority of the time. I am thinking we are gonna try to snag that van when we head to Florida for Spring Break. I love that I can stand up and walk around in there and get things for the kids. I drinks gas much worse than my Sequoia does though. But the benefits are wonderful.

My entire life is centered around cars it seems. My dh has been a mechanic for over 10 years, and now runs a wrecking yard/custom Jeep building co. My truck is used to pull a 3 car trailer when they need to deliver Jeeps and stuff like that. He is also designing a Jeep wrangler that runs on biodiesel, and plans on making his own biodiesel. He also is trying to work out how to build some that run on E85. Owning an SUV really isn't the evil of all evils. If we want to reduce our dependence on oil, the big thing would be to look at the use of big rigs. They deliver 95% of the goods sold in this country. They probably consume at least half the fuel used, although I would have to find a statistic on that one. Maybe that's where efforts need to be focused, rather than villifying people based on the cars they drive. (And why do people who drive pickup trucks get a free pass? They aren't any better)

Yeah, it does, but it makes the entire floor level when you fold the second row flat. I had two requirements when I bought this vehicle... I needed to be able to tow a 3 car trailer, and I needed to be able to fit my family along with my MIL and disabled SIL with wheelchair. (When I bought it I was driving them around sometimes) I still need to be able to tow the trailer, but I think dh's business will buy the Suburban off of me soon and I will get something smaller.

GREAT POST!! Also to reduce dependence on oil...Time to drill in Alaska, and build new refineries. Foreign oil will be a thing of the past here in the US.
