SAH/WOH - Why?

I am sure this has been done before but I was wondering this in light of recent posts lately.

Why did you decide to sah/woh?

Was it a choice or something expected of you?

Was your plan to sah/woh though out or impulsive? Long-term or short-term?

No. If they are battling on the coat issue more than likely it isn't because the think it is not cold enough it is because they are just being lazy or just don't want to be bothered to get their coat. It isn't because they don't think it is cold enough outside. So again...No coat, that is fine. You just can't go with me.

Fortunately, spanking and abandoning my child aren't the only discipline choices I have.

I want my kids to learn to make good choices now, so they can make it in the real world someday, where people *do* get fired for not showing up for work on time, doing a poor job, etc.

I didn't and don't then understand the questions you posed to mom34101 to which I responded.

I don't care why my kids don't want to wear a coat. If they're too lazy to go and get one or don't want to be bothered, they will experience the consequence of being cold. The next time, they won't be so lazy.

Still doesn't have anything to do with pneumonia.

Pnuemonia is not caused by being cold.

I disagree that firing someone is the "one effective tool" employers have, just as I disagree with your implication that spanking is the "one effective tool" parents have. Spanking is not an effective way to get kids to learn to make responsible choices on their own. It's a short-term solution--the child does what you want because you hit him, but he doesn't learn to think for himself. In fact, it's just the opposite--now you've given him a reason to be mad at *you* instead of having no one to blame but himself.

So if employers were allowed to hit their employees, they wouldn't need to fire them? You're right; spanking and firing are not analogous. One involves hitting someone; the other doesn't.
