SAH/WOH - Why?

I am sure this has been done before but I was wondering this in light of recent posts lately.

Why did you decide to sah/woh?

Was it a choice or something expected of you?

Was your plan to sah/woh though out or impulsive? Long-term or short-term?

BTDT.

Well, kinda. My scenario was the kid who wouldn't leave the store. So, I left the store. Without him. Of course, I could see him through the window, but, being much taller than a 4yo, he couldn't see me. It didn't take 45 min for him though .. took about 2 minutes. And he was at the door going "Mom? I want to go home."

Now, if he ever balks at leaving I say "Fine. Stay. I'll go home by myself." and walk away. He follows along, knowing that I might just leave him ... for a second or two. That's consequence enough.

I don't know about that, but I am a child of parents who were never ever allowed to miss school for any reason, perhaps that's the difference?

Who better to know when they need some down time than the child themselves?

You definitely get today's Best Mommy award. I have BTDT. But I give you credit for waiting out the whole 45 mins. ~ it clearly paid off. I have just completely shut down emotionally when mine have done that trick ~ skipping away in the opposite direction the louder my voice gets, with them content in the knowledge that they no longer have a mother to bother them. I eventually give in, grab a hand and walk sullenly with them to the car ~ silence on the way home. Eventually I get my energy back. Those are the times it took quite a bit not to spank. But, I did what I could knowing it was just a fraction of the stress I will feel in the teen years.

Again, you're totally not making sense.

I don't recall saying that my way is the right way for anyone but my own children nor do I recall saying that the other way was damaging to their children.
