SAH/WOH - Why?

I am sure this has been done before but I was wondering this in light of recent posts lately.

Why did you decide to sah/woh?

Was it a choice or something expected of you?

Was your plan to sah/woh though out or impulsive? Long-term or short-term?

I must have the same problem as you, just not smart enough lol ;-) I dunno... slapping with an open hand isn't as bad as punching with a fist or beating with a belt and neither of those are anything like murder... I just would prefer not to have to evaluate how violent it's okay to be with my kids.

I just wouldn't/don't do it. Never did. Found it easier to just take the kid to the cart corral with me. For some, that isn't easier.

Well goodie .. come visit my walmart and say that with a straight face.

But of course, i'm sure its *my* fault for being stupid enough to shop when everyone else does. Couldn't be that my wal-mart is just damned busy.

Freaking WalMArt stays busy. I remember one night driving down to WalMart at 10pm. I had the bright idea to shop late when the kids were snoozing and I could shop quickly because it is late. Much to my surprise...I think the entire town had the same idea I did. The place stays packed.

Well... I haven't either. I have never considered a swat on the bottom to be anywhere near violent.

Well, my bad for not reading more closely. Murder shouldn't be brought into it. But IMO the word abuse covers a lot of evils, including emotional abuse, verbal abuse, and physical abuse, which in turn includes spanking. I don't believe in spanking at all. OTOH, there are worse things than occasionally going off on one's kids in a fit of pique; we're only human.

late nights are a bad time to shop here .. college town. All the kids do their shopping after class and before partying.

Not a post specific to you, but in this vein.

Even if we agree to ban all use of the word "violent" in this discussion, I'm still missing the point of a swat of any kind. It's an invitation to the child to "swat" someone else. Why wouldn't it be?

Well, I think spanking is creepy, period. But even more so when you're calm enough to parent more effectively.

Nope it isn't at all. It is no more of an invitation to swat another child as drinking a glass of wine will make the child want to have a beer.
