SAH/WOH - Why?

I am sure this has been done before but I was wondering this in light of recent posts lately.

Why did you decide to sah/woh?

Was it a choice or something expected of you?

Was your plan to sah/woh though out or impulsive? Long-term or short-term?

bwah..i've read your fishtank posts cm both last night and today and find them rather amusing........fwiw, my kids get swats on the bottom every once in a while too but would *not* consider myself a spanker as it's not a normal/routine form of punishment.

ITA. I remember years ago there was a public service announcement that featured a little boy spending time with his dad. The two were having a grand time and they sat down under a tree to rest. Dad pulls out a pack of cigs and lights up. End shot is the little boy picking up the pack and looking at his dad adoringly. I don't understand how a parent can swat a child on the bottom to correct a behavior and then be surprised if that child smacks a playmate who won't share a toy.

You brought up your own situation, where your relationship with your mother is whatever it is because she spanked you. I am putting forth the idea that your relationship wouldn't be any different if she didn't spank, because the issue wasn't the spanking but the anger or other unresolved emotions behind it. I think any discipline technique can be harmful if used in the wrong way.

I think that's because I don't see the need to defend it, just as I don't see the need to defend WOH, SAH, or many other things folks feel strongly about, but no objective evidence supports.

Any idea can be taken to an extreme and *become* detrimental.

I would like to see some backup on that.

But you are a spanker if you do it occasionally, just like you are a PT WOHM even if you label yourself a SAHM.

No, why would you think that based on my post?

I didn't see that anywhere in your links.
