SAH/WOH - Why?

I am sure this has been done before but I was wondering this in light of recent posts lately.

Why did you decide to sah/woh?

Was it a choice or something expected of you?

Was your plan to sah/woh though out or impulsive? Long-term or short-term?

Why would you let a child climb on a fish tank?

I don't because I'd rather be chilly walking from the car to the office than have to lug a coat around the rest of the day after the temp has risen to 70 degrees. Like this morning ...

And if I'm shopping (grocery or mall or whathaveyou) I almost never wear a coat or a jacket. Cause I end up having to lug it around or take it on/off all day. I'd rather be chilly for a 45 second walk from the parking lot.

The same applies to my kids too, but they're rarely in that situation. They usually spend far more time outside (recess, etc) than I do in a normal day, so I usually prefer they wear their jacket/coat.

ETA: if I do wear a jacket on a chilly morning, it inevitably ends up on the back of my chair at the office and stays there for 3-4 days. So its better to just not take it in the first place ... lol

Of course you didn't think it was insulting, it was your post.

I have hated wearing a coat since I was little, I find them constricting and a nuisance.

Now you are posting things I didn't say. I never once called anyone a name. I've called the opinion obnoxious, and I said that the attitude in the posts is holier than thou. I actually was thinking more along the lines of DJ's posts with the holier than thou thing, but whatever. I still think that the attitude towards snoopyme in the beginning of this thread was holier than thou, although I'm still sifting through almost 1000 posts to find it. I can't help what she has said *since* that point, and I have made no statement that I agree with it.

i will preface this by saying i have swatted my kids on the but a few times over the years but i have never given them what i would consider a spanking, but honestly i consdier that my personal failing not any type of effective discipline tool. when you are spanking your child are you teaching fear or respect? i dont understand what outcome spanking is supposed to achieve - do you really want your kids to think gosh if i do this mom is going to hit me.

ita jlk...i don't hold a swat/spanking to any better level of discipline than anything else because it doesn't work for us. and yes i have swatted behinds before but more out of frustration than as some sort of effective tool..i.e. grabbing, steering ds away from the pantry a third time, this time accompanyed by a swat, because he's already had a snack.
