actually, my kids do their share -- mid-week bathroom cleaning, keeping their bedrooms clean, etc. However, I would be expected to wash all of the floors -- kitchen, 3 bathrooms, den -- clean 1 tub and 1 shower, plus all the other little organizing projects. Yes, my ex dh would have expected me to do it all. Current dh would be right beside me -- as he was all summer until our finances allowed to hire our housecleaner -- cleaning.

It's amazing how fascinated you are with my life, LOL!

I'm making this into that? You are the one that brought underwear and cupboards into it.

They have access to your children though and I know my children are far more important to me then my underwear or tupperware.

"The mechanic DOES know where you live. Unless you empty the car (including registration in the glove compartment) or never pay by check."

I do exactly that.

The point is, all the problems you worried about (copying of car keys, theft of identity) are possible in a variety of professional interactions and no more (or less) likely to happen just because the perp is in your house rather than in your glove compartment, curbside trash or handling one of the thousands of sheets of paper that are outside your house yet have your personal info."

What other scenario can some employee of some establishment make a copy of your car key? I stay with the car at the mechanic, so no chance of that. I never valet park. I shred all of my mail. It's just common sense.

You never answered the question about what your children are doing while the neighbor boy rakes your yard.

i admit that i haven't been reading this exchange closely, but i got the impression she is driving at the idea that if you hire household help, you are necessarily relieving your children from any responsiblity for any household chores whatsoever, and therefore failing to properly train them.
