School runs from 8:40 to 3:40, so 35 hours a week. The teachers have time daily from 4-5 to plan, have meetings, etc, and also from 8-8:30. They also each have time during the day when their classes are at lunch, or "special classe" (pe, music, art, guidance, library).
yet AGAIN....i have posted when there were NO children in my room (LIKE NOW)....Get it????
Geez. I've taught my classes, done my hall duty, graded 3 sets of quizzes, looked at the microorganisms (protists) that arrived, checked through 2 classes of permission slips for our upcoming trip, and set up lesson plans for next week. I'm just so sorry that that doesn't seem to be enough for you, LOL!
In addition to that - this weekend I have make-up quizzes to grade, 81 essays to grade, 2 more classes of permissions slips to check off. Is that diligent enough for you???? Nevermind the fact that I have to have grades ready for Wednesday and progress reports (one paragraph per 81 students) ready for next Monday....
By the way, I'd say that you have WAY, WAY more posts on this board today than me. Don't YOU have anything more "constructive" to do with your time?
I could find time to do my own. I don't want to. I also don't want to grow my own potatoes, change my own oil, install my own front door, steam my own carpets, teach science math and geography to my own children, milk my own cows, cut my own hair, paint my own nails, ... i could, but i don't want to. I prefer to pay someone to do all of that.
Ours is 35 hours. And they still don't have time in their day for dedicated art, music or pe. They only get music/pe/library time once a week and art only once a month. If they only had 30 hours, they'd have to cut things out of the curriculum. 35 hours is pretty reasonable, imo.
Issues? Nope. I keep the files/etc in a firesafe drawer that is locked. I lock it b/c I don't want my kids getting into it and pulling out birth certificates, etc. I also have a jewelry box full of jewelry sitting on top of my dresser. It too is locked, b/c my dd has been known to take things out and try them on.
I guess I do have lots of "personal" things that are accessible, but they are not things I really care if someone else sees or touches. Honestly, if I had issues with strangers being in my home, I doubt I could have made it through a 6-month addition.
What you seem to be calling unnecessary risks, could be seen as leaning toward paranoia to others. I've called in and picked up my mil's perscriptions for her. The only difference between me doing that and a nanny, is that the nanny gets paid and I don't. I know how to sew jeans and polo shirts for Dylan's school clothes but I prefer to spend my time on more lucrative sewing. The amount of time I'd spend on sewing one pair of jeans I could be earning enough money to buy 4-5 pairs. On the other hand, I enjoy sewing Dylan's boxers almost as much as he enjoys picking out the fabric and having me sew them for him. So I sew those.

Oh, life is a glorious cycle of song,
I have been lurking all day today and I am a teacher.
I find that you have been posting for an abnormal amount of time throughout the day.
And if anyone feels the need to get on my case, I am on sabbatical this year!
Paying someone else to do something for you does not mean you are not taking care of your responsibilities.
So I guess I should never hire a babysitter so that I can go somewhere w/o my kids since they are MY responsibility ?
