Actually, this is not true. I never said their minds were blank. I said their minds were wandering- just as mine does when doing something that doesn't require my full concentration. It doesn't take a genius to accomplish these tasks. It doesn't take a genius to accomplish most tasks, thank goodness, because there aren't that many geniuses around.
Many jobs have some aspect of them that can be done on autopilot, freeing one's mind to wander. The one's that don't (air traffic controller, I've heard and field medics probably) are notoriously stressful. Thankfully, most jobs have an aspect that allows the mind to wander at times. I assume that folding underwear comes under that heading for a housecleaner, as stapling papers together would for a lawyer, and spooning excrement into little containers does for me. Being 100% "on" is difficult and not something that most people can or want from their job.
It is also mundane to sew on buttons. I'm certainly not really concentrating on what my hands are doing at that moment. They are "busy hands" chores that free up the mind to think of something else. So is beading a wedding gown which is why I do them in front of the TV when I'm working at home.
Oh Lordy, you misunderstood AGAIN. You really need to read those posts again. Here is what I said- that NOBODY'S mind is ever blank unless they are brain dead. I have never said "blank slate" in refernce to allowing one's mind to wander. That was YOU!! I refuted your "blank slate" nonsense saying that is a state impossible to be in without actual brain death. YOU are the one who doesn't know the difference between letting your mind wander and a state of mind impossible for a human to be in w/o brain death.
Does your job require 100% concentration every second that you are doing it so that your mind is unable to ever wander? Mine doesn't. Because I'm neither an air traffic controller nor a field medic nor a surgeon .Even a surgeon is likely thinking about something other than scrubbing for surgery while scrubbing for surgery. Not everything requires total focus which is good or our brains would explode from stress.
There is neither a problem in doing it oneself nor a problem in hiring somebody else to do it. Why do you find it problematic for other people to outsource things they are able to do themselves? Do you think it is wrong to hire somebody to do anything unless you are unable to do it yourself? Why do think that?
I understand that you don't like a stranger coming into your house. What I don't understand is why you think it is somehow improper or irresponsible if other people don't have that same hangup.

Oh, life is a glorious cycle of song,
So true. My bil broke into his own mom's house while she wasn't there. Among other things he stole several silver dollars that she was keeping for me.
