They are 10 1/2,8 1/2,7 1/2,almost 6,3 and 19 months. The older 4 put their own clothes away. I was doing laundry at 11 or 12 for my mom and I and making supper most nights by the time I was 14. At this point because I'm a SAHM do all the laundry but if/when I go back to work we'll have to see what happens.
i don't see that as an obstacle. my 3 year old knows more spanish than i do because he's in an extended prek program once a week....each one of my children has something to teach *me* about school and what they've learned when we go over it together.
2500.00 is good as is it in the midwest too - you can send three kids to the catholic schools there for the price of one kid down here.....but your summer camps and a/s care seem a bit high @ 90./week (360.00 a month?) and 60./week for after care. a/s care is about 140.00 per month/child here. i don't know what all day summer camps cost.
I thought the point of reviewing homework with a child was to make sure that the child understood the concepts and was completing the homework correctly? I'm not sure how a parent who doesn't know the subject would be able to do this in any sort of effective way...however much he/she might be learning from a child.
our daycamp run out of the school is another BAHGAIN. The local Y day camps are about $125-$175 a week -- the two week summer musical theater day camp she did was $150 a week. AFterschool is $12 a day and she pretty much goes every day -- but that doesnt' seem too steep to me the Y afterschool program is closer to $15 a day.
and my dd HATED the Y vacation camps -- we tried one one February and she was miserable -- too overcrowded, too wide an age range, she felt completely overwhelmed. This Feb she'll go to her acting school's vacation camp which is the first time they've offered it outside of summer vacation. I have 3 weeks vacation a year and I need to save 2 of them for those weeks between school and daycampe and then daycamp and school -- i try to take some time in April too and fortunately my theater closes Christmas week with pay so I'm set there -- but I generally can't take time off in February...
Good for you. My 8th grader is taking Spanish, and I don't know one verb form from another....don't know if I am looking at an -ir verb or an -ar verb and frankly, if I were going to learn another language right now, Spanish wouldn't be it. Nor do I read everything he is assigned to be able to critique his analyses of novels, etc. One time through Lord of the Flies was one time too many. And I barely made it through high school chemistry the first round. I am NOT looking forward to an encore performance.
those prices make me nauseous. We get a discount for being parish members and there is financial aid if we really wanted to press for it I could apply with just my income but I'd rather not have to do that -- junior high and high school is gonna kill us financially.

Yes. We. Did.
We pay about $5300 for my dd's tuition in Catholic school (here in suburban MD).
