Sneaking purchases...

I was reading another board about sneaking purchases past their husband's. I know I use to sneak before we started doing our finances together. I would actually come home during lunch to get the mail or unload packages. I was pitiful. Even now, I will bring things in the house and wince thinking how upset Devin would be with me.

So, have you ever hid purchases or not told your DH the whole picture of your finances? We use to horrible fights about finances. I would do the weekly budget and e-mail him it. We would discuss it and everything was fine. Then, he would tell me two days later that he was doing a marathon that cost $75.00. I had to actually ask him before we did the budget-Do you have any marathons? Do you need shoes? Do you have any equipment you need? Can you tell I

I am of the impression from what I know about your hours and the type of work you do, you don't need to dress to interact with customers/the public in general.

"If your job allows you all these things with NO restrictions (meaning no set schedule, no mandatory days, having to request vacation time and wait for approval, etc) then maybe you are miscategorizing yourself too."

Hmmm, does this mean that I get to categorise myself as a SAHM too??? There are actually jobs out there that are this flexible. I have no set schedule, I set it myself according to ds's school hours and needs. There are absolutely no mandatory days that I have to be at work, though I do need to work a certain number of days per year (and even this is flexible...I always have the option of taking unpaid days off when I want). I have never had to request vacation time or wait for approval: I can set my vacation when I want and how I want, though I prefer to coordinate with my coworkers for politeness' sake. If I feel like leaving early one day on a whim when things are a bit slow, no problem. Covering snow days (actually, we've never had one now that I think about it) or teacher in-service days (I think it is called?) or sick days has never been a problem and if there is something going on at school or dc and I need to get to the kids...well, when it's come up I've walked out the door 5 minutes after getting the phone call regardless of what was going on at work. Not everyone has this level of flexibility...but I think there are a lot of people who do.

DS1 is average to small in height and is very precocious. He weighs probably 75 pounds soaking wet. DS2 is at least 3 inches taller and 35 pounds heavier than DS1. When I tell people that DS2 is my younger son they look at me like I'm from Mars and that he *must* be my older son because he's SO big.

I've never yet seen a corporate dress code forbidding black clothing or black leather purses in the summer. Not even for the sales people. And I worked in Marketing for over 17 years before becoming a typesetter.

had to pipe in. I've been know to wear sheer silk in winter (where it WAS cold), and got in a *lot* of trouble when I wore a white silk dress to my friend's wedding.

Choose your friends by their character and your socks by their color.  Choosing your socks by their character makes no sense and choosing your friends by their color is unthinkable.

What I meant was, you have to be somewhat of a conformist (in some jobs).

But wearing white isn't "inappropriate" ... its just not "fashionable" ... BIG difference. I may not be "trendy" or "fashionable" or "stylish" all the time . but I'm *always* appropriate ...
