Ok, with all the wedding talk and what to give for gifts, I am NOW, after going to weddings for almost 20 years-lol! invited to an outdoor wedding in someone's home.
Here is the scenario:
Bride and Groom (she 22, he 36)
Living together for over 3 years
Groom-12 year old son
Bride and Groom-have a 3 year old and she is due with their 2nd in August
Wedding:
At her mother's house-catered food from restaurant

I know in other posts I said I would probably give the same as a sit down reception but we were orally invited to this wedding so I assume they are doing this just to get married before the 2nd child arrives. I have NO clue now what to do about a gift-lol!!

Why would you think I would bring a gift to a superbowl party then?

The point is when you are a date, that person is bringing you to a party they were invited to with a guest. I don't see why I would offer to bring a gift. I never once asked my dh (bf) if I should give him half of what he was giving. I took it as he was bringing me alone and would give the gift.

What is being debated by yourself and some others has little resemblance to what I actually stated.

Did you NOT give a gift?

Because you have stated that you always bring a gift to parties.

What does that have to do with anything?

Yes and I do but I did state at one time that we have had superbowl parties and boxing parties and no one brings gifts (which I would not either) but they will bring a dessert or something to eat or drink.

I don't see why you would bring 1/2 or a whole gift. You are being invited as a date for the evening. Obviously any wedding I was invited as the date, I was not that close to them that I did not attend the shower so why would I give them a gift at the wedding? These were my dh's family and he provided the gift from both of us.

Well maybe because gifts by you are done in a different fashion. We would be giving money tht night so nothing is sent beforehand.
