Ok, with all the wedding talk and what to give for gifts, I am NOW, after going to weddings for almost 20 years-lol! invited to an outdoor wedding in someone's home.
Here is the scenario:
Bride and Groom (she 22, he 36)
Living together for over 3 years
Groom-12 year old son
Bride and Groom-have a 3 year old and she is due with their 2nd in August
Wedding:
At her mother's house-catered food from restaurant

I know in other posts I said I would probably give the same as a sit down reception but we were orally invited to this wedding so I assume they are doing this just to get married before the 2nd child arrives. I have NO clue now what to do about a gift-lol!!

World Cup parties are fairly casual where I live as well. Nevertheless, where I live it is considered polite to present the hostess with either flowers or wine if invited to such a party.

My sister had 200 people at her wedding and her list was about 50. I think about 30-40 showed up. I did not invite any "guests" unless she knew them very well.

I'll buy a new dress or shoes for just about any reason at all...but I didn't for my wedding.

You think that was nasty? BWAHAHAHAHAHA.

Who do I invite to showers? Oh, lots of close friends and family of the guest of honor. But not ALL of them everytime. Sometimes you just can't invite 100 people to a friggin' shower.

I understand wanting to buy something a little more personal but we would do that at the shower, not wedding. That is why everyone is not understanding why I would not bring a separate gift to the shower when I was the "date".

The same can be said for many of the birthday parties I attend.

Nobody said I had or have been to a shower with that many women. It is usually family and close friends. If you are the "date or & guest" and not close to the couple, you do not invited. I never got invited to the showers of the weddings I went to when I was "& guest". If I would have been, then that gift would have been from the 2 of us, not just myself. If the person is very close to me, I will sign the card and gift from my entire family, not just me.

that makes several assumptions: 1) that there was a shower 2) that we/I was invited to the shower and 3) that we didn't also take/send a gift to a shower if there was one and 4) that everyone does everything the way you do.
