Ok, with all the wedding talk and what to give for gifts, I am NOW, after going to weddings for almost 20 years-lol! invited to an outdoor wedding in someone's home.
Here is the scenario:
Bride and Groom (she 22, he 36)
Living together for over 3 years
Groom-12 year old son
Bride and Groom-have a 3 year old and she is due with their 2nd in August
Wedding:
At her mother's house-catered food from restaurant

I know in other posts I said I would probably give the same as a sit down reception but we were orally invited to this wedding so I assume they are doing this just to get married before the 2nd child arrives. I have NO clue now what to do about a gift-lol!!

But no one explains what THEY do by them.
You keep asking "who are these people". Obviously it is friends and family and people I stories I have heard from friends and family about showers and weddings they have attended.

Basically. We have engagement parties to celebrate the engagement. Then comes the shower that is usually hosted by the bridemaids. My mom hosted mine mostly because all my friends were still in college and could not afford to host the shower and my sister was 16! The women invited were family and friends and co-workers. I did not invite any "& guest" as I did not know them that well.

"I feel bad for all of these couples who are not intimate enough to get at least THIS agreed upon. Sounds fairly straightforward."

Thank you for making me see the light. That's what's going on here. Everyone picks her apart but no on has the guts to say what goes on in their corner of the world. Is it because they fear we will pick it apart?
Oh well, they can always say they don't recall, you know!

I personally do not know anyone who did not have a shower. Some people have a couple, some with family, friends and at work.

I actually don't think that giving money instead of gifts is more sophisticated. It's kind of a throw-back to the times when married couples were all poor young kids who needed hand-outs from the older relatives.

they hope to receive the rooster creamer at the wedding instead of an envelope!

Can I ask where your mom was? I don't know your situation so I don't want to sound harsh. I don't know many moms that would not host a shower if someone else did not for their daughter.
