Ok, with all the wedding talk and what to give for gifts, I am NOW, after going to weddings for almost 20 years-lol! invited to an outdoor wedding in someone's home.
Here is the scenario:
Bride and Groom (she 22, he 36)
Living together for over 3 years
Groom-12 year old son
Bride and Groom-have a 3 year old and she is due with their 2nd in August
Wedding:
At her mother's house-catered food from restaurant

I know in other posts I said I would probably give the same as a sit down reception but we were orally invited to this wedding so I assume they are doing this just to get married before the 2nd child arrives. I have NO clue now what to do about a gift-lol!!

I can't imagine why you posted that to me, since I'm neither surprised nor confused at all about why a woman would give a gift at a shower or a reception. She has said repeatedly that she felt like it. Not only that, but going to a shower and bringing a gift in no way suggests you don't also send a wedding gift; they're two entirely different things.

Sounds like fun. Around here, though, it's considered bad form for a relative to throw a shower. In your situation, the shower would more likely have been skipped.

They can try, but it doesn't usually hold up long.

You've got the idea! Some think it's tacky, but it can be really creative, as well as green.

Same here. Much too "grabby" otherwise.

Sounds a little like these weddings where you have to "cover the plate". Blech!

When you do something totally out of the ordinary, sometimes people feel out of place. They felt very out of place because they were looking for that "gift table" and there was none.

How young were you when you got married? I was 21.
