Ok, with all the wedding talk and what to give for gifts, I am NOW, after going to weddings for almost 20 years-lol! invited to an outdoor wedding in someone's home.
Here is the scenario:
Bride and Groom (she 22, he 36)
Living together for over 3 years
Groom-12 year old son
Bride and Groom-have a 3 year old and she is due with their 2nd in August
Wedding:
At her mother's house-catered food from restaurant

I know in other posts I said I would probably give the same as a sit down reception but we were orally invited to this wedding so I assume they are doing this just to get married before the 2nd child arrives. I have NO clue now what to do about a gift-lol!!

And skinny people can very easily not be fit. I work with the skinniest woman alive and she can't work out for any length of time b/c she's not fit. What I was getting at I guess is that I"d much rather live, love, play and be in a community that isn't looking at my nails or my gray hair or my belly and is rather looking at ME the person. I fell in love with Kelly b/c she's the funniest person I've ever met -- she also happens to be chubby with bitten cuticles -- big freaking deal. I love her not her nails.

Of course I don't know your husband better than you do. I just find it odd that a man wouldn't want his wife to look her best.

"her best' is unique to each of us -- to me 'my best' has nothing to do with my nails -- it has everything to do with my smile, my charm, my wit and hopefully a semi pulled together outfit. but my nails? nope. not even on the list.

I've never paid for my own meal at any party I've ever been to. When you invite someone to a party, they're your guest. I wouldn't charge my guests for their dinner when I have company at home, so why would I do it at a restaurant? I just don't get it at all.

Exactly, I'm not saying that fat people are more unhealthy than skinny people. Many factors come into it. You can have a skinny chain smoker that drinks a six pack a day. Doesn't make them healthy just cause they're skinny. Still the overweight person is unhealthy also.

I have to say I agree with this one-- at a shower unless you've billed it as a pot luck peple are going to expect to be fed -- even if it's just cake and coffee -- now I CAN see getting the girls together and saying 'let's go out to dinner /lunch and we'll chip in to take the bride out and we'll celebrate her wedding etc..' so people know ahead of time it's a dutch treat kind of occassion. it all comes down to the invitation and how it's worded or phrased.
