Ok, with all the wedding talk and what to give for gifts, I am NOW, after going to weddings for almost 20 years-lol! invited to an outdoor wedding in someone's home.
Here is the scenario:
Bride and Groom (she 22, he 36)
Living together for over 3 years
Groom-12 year old son
Bride and Groom-have a 3 year old and she is due with their 2nd in August
Wedding:
At her mother's house-catered food from restaurant

I know in other posts I said I would probably give the same as a sit down reception but we were orally invited to this wedding so I assume they are doing this just to get married before the 2nd child arrives. I have NO clue now what to do about a gift-lol!!

When i started dating Kelly I was still wearing alot of makeup and she said to me one day -- you are SO pretty -- your eyes are SO pretty -- why do you wear all that makeup? you're so much prettier without it!

I love her...

It's still a party. Maybe not "formal", but I think it qualifies as a party. We did this for a co-workers wedding (we called it a shower); we didn't mail invitations but did all the inviting by phone, about 3 days before we all met for lunch (and gifts) at a local restaurant.

:)

I'll often ask dh something like "Does my hair look okay?" or "How is this outfit?" And his response is "It looks great. But then, you could be bald and I'd say that 'cause you're always beautiful to me." or "nice outfit, but I prefer you naked." lol

I did! And I love it-- it takes me 2 seconds to get ready in the morning. the only time I wear it is on a special occassion or a show night at the theater when I have to meet and greet in the lobby. I lvoe who I am now-- I love my gray spiky hair, I love my wrinkles and I love my height (that's another thing that rocks about dating women, I stopped being self concsious about being 5'10)...

The ride I would LOVE to do someday is the pan Mass Challenge -- 200 miles, 2 days frm Sturbridge to Provinctown and then a party boat back to Boston! but I'd need serious time to train for that and that's not gonna happen until LIza's old enough to stay home by herself!

It qualifies as a party, yes. But when I think of a birthday party, a bridal shower, or a wedding reception, I think of something more planned in advance and less spur-of-the-moment, with a definite host and definite guests, and according to that tradition. OTOH, any party is way better than none.
