Ok, with all the wedding talk and what to give for gifts, I am NOW, after going to weddings for almost 20 years-lol! invited to an outdoor wedding in someone's home.
Here is the scenario:
Bride and Groom (she 22, he 36)
Living together for over 3 years
Groom-12 year old son
Bride and Groom-have a 3 year old and she is due with their 2nd in August
Wedding:
At her mother's house-catered food from restaurant

I know in other posts I said I would probably give the same as a sit down reception but we were orally invited to this wedding so I assume they are doing this just to get married before the 2nd child arrives. I have NO clue now what to do about a gift-lol!!

Is one's wedding day inevitably the most important day in one's life?

It might be for some people.

Wedding traditions are apparently much more consistent and homogeneous on LI than in OK.

You have the rest of your life ( not to mention the honeymoon) to do that. We were the last ones to leave our wedding reception.........

I'm not critical of things being homogenous and consistent. I'm critical of assumptions that things are homogenous and consistent everywhere, simply because they're homogenous and consistent in their neck of the woods.

Do you enjoy being out of place?

Ok. You enjoyed your big, fancy reception. Great. That means you made the right choice. I enjoyed my low-key one. Which means I made the right choice.

If you have people traveling from all over the place to see you and celebrate at your wedding, it seems to me like the least you can do is spend the whole evening with them.

Enjoy? No. Be embarrassed about it? No.

Not in an instance like that. Truly wouldn't bother me much.
