Ok, with all the wedding talk and what to give for gifts, I am NOW, after going to weddings for almost 20 years-lol! invited to an outdoor wedding in someone's home.
Here is the scenario:
Bride and Groom (she 22, he 36)
Living together for over 3 years
Groom-12 year old son
Bride and Groom-have a 3 year old and she is due with their 2nd in August
Wedding:
At her mother's house-catered food from restaurant

I know in other posts I said I would probably give the same as a sit down reception but we were orally invited to this wedding so I assume they are doing this just to get married before the 2nd child arrives. I have NO clue now what to do about a gift-lol!!

"Do you enjoy being out of place? Wouldn't you at least like to know what traditions you're going against before you do so?"

I know this wasn't directed at me but I have to say I mostly LOVE being the oddball -- always have -- probably why I went into theater. And if I brought a gift and there was no gift table I'd probably say "well then, where would you like me to put this?" and be dont with it. I certainly wouldn't be mortified b/c I wasn the only one who didn't bring a check...shrug. I like being different... ;-)

I am absolutely sure that it is for some people, but I had the impression that you meant that the wedding day is the most important day for everyone. I very much doubt that is the case.

I agree. However, I didn't have people traveling from all over the place to see me and celebrate at my wedding.

Wait: I take that back. One of my best friends came 90 miles. She actually came back to our house after the reception and we talked for a couple hours. And dh's best friend flew in from Alaska. He came in a day before the wedding and stayed 3-4 days. We spend a lot of time with him.

Most important days aren't always celebratory days. I dont' know that I can rank my important days, but at the top of the list is the day that xh told me he loved the woman he'd been having an affair with. That moment was CRITICAL to the rest of my life; it set me up to be where I am today. Another most important day was the day my divorce papers were signed. I've never felt so free and liberated. The days my kids were born, the day I got married, the day I met dh, the day I posted my profile on match.com, one day at a friend's pond (inspiring moment from my father) ... all are such important days to me that I can't pinpoint one MOST IMPORTANT day of my life.

"Why is it absurd to think that at a restaurant shower everyone pays their own way? At every restaurant bday party I've been to everyone has paid for their own meal."

I frankly find it absurd.

Can a get-together, that is joyous and happy and a grandly good time, not be a party?

How in the world can you raise your dd, have a full time job and a girlfriend and work out 5 days a week? I bow down to your time management skills.

three words 'five thirty am"

thats when I get up to ride or work out on the days I don't have Liza (she spends a week with me and then a week with her dad) I ride early in the mroning and am back by 7am to get showered and get to work. On the days I DO have Liza I try to go to the gym on my lunch hours. On show days I'll often go to the gym late in the afternoon when I know I"m going to be here until 11 at night.

and I am compulsively neurotically organized.... LOL
