Ok, with all the wedding talk and what to give for gifts, I am NOW, after going to weddings for almost 20 years-lol! invited to an outdoor wedding in someone's home.
Here is the scenario:
Bride and Groom (she 22, he 36)
Living together for over 3 years
Groom-12 year old son
Bride and Groom-have a 3 year old and she is due with their 2nd in August
Wedding:
At her mother's house-catered food from restaurant

I know in other posts I said I would probably give the same as a sit down reception but we were orally invited to this wedding so I assume they are doing this just to get married before the 2nd child arrives. I have NO clue now what to do about a gift-lol!!

Is she inviting you all or asking you to go? Big difference.

In that case, your friend isn't hosting the party on the train, she is inviting you to join her on the experience.

We've hosted lazer tag and mini-golf type things for our children's birthday parties. We pay the whole tab.

I think what you are saying is so far out of the norm.

If that is what she wants to do. Showers in nice restaurants cost alot more than $700 and people must think it is worth it because restaurants have them all the time.

My dh is ONE of them. He is NOT turned on by someone of her size at all either. I will NOT tell you what kind of sticker he had one time because I will probably insult some people.

Maybe YOUR norm but not ours. I would say 95% of showers I have gone to have been in restaurants.

Depends on who sends the invitations, whose house it's held at, who answers the phone calls, who handles the toasts, etc. It's quite possible for the MOB to do it all from behind the scenes. But, at the risk of insisting on what some might consider outmoded etiquette rules, it's not the done thing for the MOB or the sister of the bride to *obviously* throw the bride a shower.

So true. Like I said about my sister's bridal shower, I hosted it but my mother would not let me pay. NO ONE at the party knew it expect for the 2 of us.
