Ok, with all the wedding talk and what to give for gifts, I am NOW, after going to weddings for almost 20 years-lol! invited to an outdoor wedding in someone's home.
Here is the scenario:
Bride and Groom (she 22, he 36)
Living together for over 3 years
Groom-12 year old son
Bride and Groom-have a 3 year old and she is due with their 2nd in August
Wedding:
At her mother's house-catered food from restaurant

I know in other posts I said I would probably give the same as a sit down reception but we were orally invited to this wedding so I assume they are doing this just to get married before the 2nd child arrives. I have NO clue now what to do about a gift-lol!!

<<I don't think the more expensive it is the more important it is but there are just certain things in life that I think you spend more on.>>

How does that not contradict?

I agree. I am a coupon cutter and will buy things mostly only on sale every week. I know about saving money. I also know there are certain times in your life that you open your wallet and spend some of your hard earned money. I work hard and want to enjoy my life and if that means I spend half and save half, that is what I will do. I don't think it is very impressive when someone says they have this much or that much money in the bank and did nothing with their life.

Sounds like a book that I would enjoy as well.

<<I feel that you need to enjoy life while you are saving. >>

I agree and have never said differently.

It's really well written -- my favorite part is where the prince comes up with the whole shoe idea (see, Edna also lost her sensible loafer when she ran to catch the bus home)...the prince's brother says "are you kidding me? you didn't even ask her NAME???"

Yes. We. Did.

Who are all these people? It can't be anyone you know, because they've all spend $38K on their weddings and $300 per gift for everyone else's wedding.

I have been on these boards and there have been people who claim to be millionares and try to impress people with that. That does NOT impress my unless you are ALSO living life. Money in the bank will do nothing for you when you are gone.

No they are not. Most people I know are enjoying their life. They are being generous with their money and giving nice gifts instead of socking away all their money.
