Ok, with all the wedding talk and what to give for gifts, I am NOW, after going to weddings for almost 20 years-lol! invited to an outdoor wedding in someone's home.
Here is the scenario:
Bride and Groom (she 22, he 36)
Living together for over 3 years
Groom-12 year old son
Bride and Groom-have a 3 year old and she is due with their 2nd in August
Wedding:
At her mother's house-catered food from restaurant

I know in other posts I said I would probably give the same as a sit down reception but we were orally invited to this wedding so I assume they are doing this just to get married before the 2nd child arrives. I have NO clue now what to do about a gift-lol!!

There was a discussion awhile ago about shopping in thrift shops and there were a few posters that had to announce that they had a million in the bank. There was also a poll awhile back too.

The trips are not always grand or expensive, but they are usually quite a bit of fun, interesting and hopefully the kids (and us!) learn something along the way.

I remember growing up, we didn't have a lot of money for trips but I remember riding the bus to my grandmothers for a few weeks.

Never said that. My point is that sometimes people will not enjoy everything they can because they don't want to spend the money.

I'm sure she doesn't need to spend alot of money on vacation, given the area and history of the area where she lives. One doesn't need to spend alot on vacations to get the same result, do they? I'm sure a day trip in her part of the world would give her family the same satisfaction as yours gets from a more expensive vacation.

I do try to do an awful lot of day trips with liza -- and I know she enjoys it and we've seen alot of what our region has to offer that way -- but it's so hard to get the time away (my last 'vacation' a few weeks ago I ended up having to come to the office three conscecutive mornings b/c they were holding final interviews for executive director candiates) and I try so hard to save for even modest little trips so I don't have to charge things but then it always seems like something comes up like my property taxes rising, or I need new tires for my jeep --and I'm back to square one. B/c Kelly hasn't really been making anything while she's been gettin gher degree it really does fall all on me if we want to go anywhere. Next year and thereafter it should be more equitable and I think we'll be able to travel a bit more.

Yes. We. Did.

Why would you even go to a wedding that the couple does not mean that much to you?

Okay...I participated in that debate.

I have not gone to a wedding in 5 years so I don't think that would have made a difference.
