Ok, with all the wedding talk and what to give for gifts, I am NOW, after going to weddings for almost 20 years-lol! invited to an outdoor wedding in someone's home.
Here is the scenario:
Bride and Groom (she 22, he 36)
Living together for over 3 years
Groom-12 year old son
Bride and Groom-have a 3 year old and she is due with their 2nd in August
Wedding:
At her mother's house-catered food from restaurant

I know in other posts I said I would probably give the same as a sit down reception but we were orally invited to this wedding so I assume they are doing this just to get married before the 2nd child arrives. I have NO clue now what to do about a gift-lol!!

You'd have to know the history of this and associated threads to understand the one you just replied to.

The birth of dd fixed everything. Other people had predicted that it would and thankfully they were right.

So a post that someone shopped at a thrift shop, and had a million in the bank, leads you to believe that LOTS OF PEOPLE are so busy saving that they have no enjoyment in life.

Gotcha.

BTW, I have a swamp in Nairobi to sell you too.

"It is okay to give a couple $50 for a wedding gift. But of course that is irrelevant in the discussion of what one has done with their life."

Not if you give that much for a basic family birthday gift. A wedding is a much bigger celebration than something that occurs every year.

Absolutely we leave town. I have been all over since I was 2 years old.

If they don't mean how much to me? Enough to give a $300 gift? So, if the bride/groom aren't worth a $300 gift to me I shouldn't even go to the wedding?

Gotcha. BAER

<<I'm sure she doesn't need to spend alot of money on vacation, given the area and history of the area where she lives. >>

I'm sure she doesn't but then again as she stated, she hasn't done so due to disposable income.

<< One doesn't need to spend alot on vacations to get the same result, do they?>>

Of course not, that was my point.

<<I'm sure a day trip in her part of the world would give her family the same satisfaction as yours gets from a more expensive vacation. >>

Again, exactly my point in that post and throughout this subthread.

What on earth does that have to do with this discussion? There is NOBODY who has made one single post that said or even implied that their reception would have been more enjoyable had they spent more money. Where are you getting this "not enjoy everything" from and how does it relate to the discussion of the cost of wedding receptions?
