Ok, with all the wedding talk and what to give for gifts, I am NOW, after going to weddings for almost 20 years-lol! invited to an outdoor wedding in someone's home.
Here is the scenario:
Bride and Groom (she 22, he 36)
Living together for over 3 years
Groom-12 year old son
Bride and Groom-have a 3 year old and she is due with their 2nd in August
Wedding:
At her mother's house-catered food from restaurant

I know in other posts I said I would probably give the same as a sit down reception but we were orally invited to this wedding so I assume they are doing this just to get married before the 2nd child arrives. I have NO clue now what to do about a gift-lol!!

<<You don't recall? You sound very political, lol.>>

No, I sound like it happened twenty years ago and I don't recall what happened, lol.

<<I think it is tacky to bring a date and never discuss what they will give as a gift. >>

Since again, that is not what I stated, I doubt it.

lololol!!! True, I try and ignore my in-laws too. "My" Cinderella part was basically the whole dressing up part. I do not like attention on me so it took me hours to get comfortable with everyone staring at me-lol!!

"Since again, that is not what I stated, I doubt it."

So, was it discussed or not? Which is it? Quick pick an answer!

The questions posed didn't place any value on vacations. Hazel stated that people that save and never get out of town aren't enjoying themselves. Yet she herself doesn't leave her own town. So her statement was very hypocritical. That's what pka is trying to point out. PKA hasn't attempted to make any point about the value of a vacation relative to its distance from your home or to its cost.

<<How many times are you going to ask me this?>>

Until you answer it, you keep mentioning stating a lot, I have no idea who you are talking about.

<<There ARE people who never leave their town and save all their money. Who? ok my fil and his wife if you need to know an example. >>

That's two, they have never ever traveled anywhere?

Where was this stated? I know hazel has said that she expect to spend more and needs to open her wallet at times...but I don't think she has gone that far, can you provide a post?

Do I need to tell you everyplace I have ever been in my life?

"You said a lot, I do not think two is a lot."
You don't think 2 is alot? What about 2 murders or 2 drunk driving convictions?

<<So tell me again why it's okay for a family to spend thousands on a vacation while another family stays close to home and saves money than it is for a bride to spend tens of thousands on her wedding or another who scrimps and saves every step of the way? >>

Since I again, didn't state that....I suggest you address your question to whomever did.

I'm sorry but where do you get this stuff? My favorite gift received at my wedding didn't cost the giver a dime. It was an antique glass bird used to sit on my grandmothers table in her foyer. Now, its worth a good chunk of change if Ebay has anything to say about it (no, I won't sell it but I've seen period glass of that brand there) but I was mostly touched that they thought to give it to me. It had nothing to do with the glass itself but the meaning behind it. I'd rather people didn't buy me anything for my birthday, to be honest.
