Ok, with all the wedding talk and what to give for gifts, I am NOW, after going to weddings for almost 20 years-lol! invited to an outdoor wedding in someone's home.
Here is the scenario:
Bride and Groom (she 22, he 36)
Living together for over 3 years
Groom-12 year old son
Bride and Groom-have a 3 year old and she is due with their 2nd in August
Wedding:
At her mother's house-catered food from restaurant

I know in other posts I said I would probably give the same as a sit down reception but we were orally invited to this wedding so I assume they are doing this just to get married before the 2nd child arrives. I have NO clue now what to do about a gift-lol!!

I NEVER said I do not leave my own town. I said I have not been on vacation this year with my kids because I can not afford it. I am not sitting here with a ton of money in the bank because I don't want to spend it.

Hazeleyes tried to tie less expensive wedding receptions to people who theoretically aren't living life to its fullest because they (her example) never leave town. This was all just a way to call her out on that. And it worked. Because suddenly hazeleyes was defending the enjoyment and family togetherness that could be had without leaving town or spending a ton of money. Thus refuting her own point about the need to spend in order to enjoy. The finest example of "give 'em enough rope.." that I've seen in a while.

You questioned her about her vacations, just thought it meant something to you.

What exactly do you buy that costs so much? Obviously you're not the one buying all the toasters (at least not the toasters I buy).

I hear you on remembering birthdays. I have to stop and think about when my own is.

I didn't think it was weird that I have amounts that I like to spend on certain things like bday presents, shower presents, wedding gifts, anniversary gifts, etc. I only have so much in my budget to allow for these things so I have certain amounts I usually spend.
