Ok, with all the wedding talk and what to give for gifts, I am NOW, after going to weddings for almost 20 years-lol! invited to an outdoor wedding in someone's home.
Here is the scenario:
Bride and Groom (she 22, he 36)
Living together for over 3 years
Groom-12 year old son
Bride and Groom-have a 3 year old and she is due with their 2nd in August
Wedding:
At her mother's house-catered food from restaurant
I know in other posts I said I would probably give the same as a sit down reception but we were orally invited to this wedding so I assume they are doing this just to get married before the 2nd child arrives. I have NO clue now what to do about a gift-lol!!

Everyone should have kids. They are the greatest joy in the world. But they are also terrorists. You'll realize this as soon as they are born, and they start using sleep deprivation to break you.

I have no interest in debating another strawman argument .
Put my comments back into context and then ask a question.

"What worked? Who made that point?"
After a long subthread where hazeleyes tried to tie less expensive wedding receptions to a general inability to live life to its fullest by- for example-leaving town periodically, she found herself in the position of defending not leaving town and not spending much but having fun anyway. After strenuosly arguing that fun costs lots of money and "not leaving town" is an example of an inability to live life to the fullest, she turned around and agreed that indeed it was not necessary to either leave town or spend lots of money to have fun. She wound up undercutting her own previous argument by providing her own counter example.
"give 'em enough rope" is a figure of speech. It is no more a creepy celebration of suicide than "keep your nose to the grindstone" is an invitation to self-mutilation.
<<I am not sitting here with a ton of money in the bank because I don't want to spend it. >>
That may or may not be the reason the someone doesn't want to venture out of their own town.
