Ok, with all the wedding talk and what to give for gifts, I am NOW, after going to weddings for almost 20 years-lol! invited to an outdoor wedding in someone's home.
Here is the scenario:
Bride and Groom (she 22, he 36)
Living together for over 3 years
Groom-12 year old son
Bride and Groom-have a 3 year old and she is due with their 2nd in August
Wedding:
At her mother's house-catered food from restaurant

I know in other posts I said I would probably give the same as a sit down reception but we were orally invited to this wedding so I assume they are doing this just to get married before the 2nd child arrives. I have NO clue now what to do about a gift-lol!!

There was I added the 2 neighbors next door who said he hasn't been away in 20 years on a vacation and they spend their evenings and weekends drinking in the backyard!

Yes. And before you call me "creepy" or something, I don't mean in the literal sense, but I think you know that.

I don't know. But she wouldn't need to list the entire list. Just say, "here are two examples of the 30-40 people I know like this." Her statement didn't leave room for inclusion of more people. I went by what she SAID; not by what she may have meant but conveniently forgot to say.

I suspect that there are couples spending far less than that in Manhattan right this minute. Although it is unlikely they are having the recpetion in a nice hotel. Or any hotel at all. But then again, the entire concept of "cutting corners" assumes that there is a certain accepted way of doing things and devaiations from that are cut corners. Monogrammed napkins are a good example (post from back there somewhere). It never even occurred to me that monogrammed napkins were something to consider (and then discard to save money) and so their absence didn't represent a cut corner in my reception. I am guessing (but have no proof) that somewhere in Manhattan there is a loft where a wedding reception is being held for far less than 30,000$. It won't be swank and it may not be catered (unless the couple knows people in the biz as my brother did), but Cindarella swank is not a goal for many people and so there is no outrageous expense to cut corners from.

Fewer guests, for starters.

We enjoyed the full meal, the open bar, the after dinner drinks, the photography, the videography, the band.

<<Then clarified to say she had met the couple of a few different occasions. >>

No, I stated that in my original statement to you.

What's your meaning of a post that I "jumped all over"?

No. I believe you said that you were a date and then in another post you said you had met the couple on a few occasions prior to the wedding.
