Ok, with all the wedding talk and what to give for gifts, I am NOW, after going to weddings for almost 20 years-lol! invited to an outdoor wedding in someone's home.
Here is the scenario:
Bride and Groom (she 22, he 36)
Living together for over 3 years
Groom-12 year old son
Bride and Groom-have a 3 year old and she is due with their 2nd in August
Wedding:
At her mother's house-catered food from restaurant

I know in other posts I said I would probably give the same as a sit down reception but we were orally invited to this wedding so I assume they are doing this just to get married before the 2nd child arrives. I have NO clue now what to do about a gift-lol!!

Doesn't say anything about you bringing a gift in that post though. As you stated it did.

I don't think the whole story really matters, since there's no reason at all to assume "common decency" was violated in any way by anyone involved.

I have to agree. I don't think I would be giving a gift if I was the date. I would expect my date to be covering that as I am just the "& guest".

I would love for you to tell me as we haven't been told in the last 5 years why he stopped coming around.

Well if you just paid your mortgage or rent than I understand the no money in your checking account.
The point is that we have amounts that we usually spend on certain people and I don't think there is anything wrong with that. If I buy a gift and not give money, I sometimes go under the amount I usually would spend. I am not basing my relationships on money. There is only so much I have and I try and have a budget to pay for these things also.

If I was a "date" at a wedding, absolutely. I WOULD pick out the gift if I was that close to my date or couple but otherwise, I see date as someone just taking me out for the night.

I agree with you. I might be the only one, but I do.

No, you must list every single solitary person that you know. As if reading a bunch of names that no one else knows is going to prove it to someone, lol.
