Ok, with all the wedding talk and what to give for gifts, I am NOW, after going to weddings for almost 20 years-lol! invited to an outdoor wedding in someone's home.
Here is the scenario:
Bride and Groom (she 22, he 36)
Living together for over 3 years
Groom-12 year old son
Bride and Groom-have a 3 year old and she is due with their 2nd in August
Wedding:
At her mother's house-catered food from restaurant

I know in other posts I said I would probably give the same as a sit down reception but we were orally invited to this wedding so I assume they are doing this just to get married before the 2nd child arrives. I have NO clue now what to do about a gift-lol!!

So you don't think there are people out there who have NEVER experienced anything but their lifes in their own town?

I guess it's the way one is raised. Like a man holding the door open for a woman or a young person giving up their seat to the elderly or pregnant. If someone invites me to a wedding where they know the couple, they should bring the gift, not I. If I am expected to bring a gift, maybe that was the reason I was invited: to supply the gift, lol. What a bargain the guy got,ha? He doesn't have to pay for my dinner or anything.

So true. So I guess if I say 40 people and just list names: Bob, Joe, Mary everyone would be satisfied. I will make sure I never say "alot" anymore!

lololol!! I just think if I was a "date", not a fiance or wife, I would not bring a gift. The only thing I thought about when I went to weddings with my dh (then bf) was what I would wear!

I think it's odd not to discuss who's responsible for bringing the gift. Like, what else do you talk about pertaining to the wedding? It's like "the gift" is this big taboo subject or something. "Shhh, don't discuss it maybe the gift will walk in on its own". lol

lololol!! Maybe I just have met very different types of people through the years. I am younger than some people here so I find that interesting.

lololol!! You would think if both people know the couple well that they WOULD talk about the gift.

When DH and I were dating, he invited me to a wedding and I asked him how much he was giving the couple and he told me and I told him I would pick up the card. Now that we are married, he assumes I take care of the gifts but when we walk out the door, he will ask "did you get the gift?" As if he wouldn't throw a fit if I said I had to stop at the store on the way there!
