"And the partial cash bar"

What's wrong with that? I had a cash bar at my wedding for everyone but the wedding party but champagne was availble to all the guests -- do you know how much an open bar costs???? My parents were retired state employed teachers of the deaf... they would have gone bankrupt paying for an open bar...and honestly I think I've only been to one wedding that had an entirely open bar the whole time ...all of my college friends did the same thing either cash bar, or open bar for an hour.... really ...our friends will live paying for theiir own glass of wine and that way there are fewer drunk and disorderly guests.

Yes. We. Did.

It does not matter but I think it is always nice to know what someone gave you, especially if you are invited to their wedding next. I don't see the problem with knowing what someone gave you. I write down gifts for my kids events in their baby book. Isn't that the same thing?

Then you don't know what you did with the money either? I know exactly how much was given and what we did with it.

Really? Now see, I have NEVER been to a wedding that had a cash bar. Here, we would consider that very rude but I guess in other areas it is the norm. If I figure correctly, from what my father figured out per head, it cost $2000 for the open bar.

Why wouldn't you just give everyone a plate and let them take a little of each dessert home? That's what usually happens if there are so many desserts that the hostess is pulling out her hair in the other room, thinking she will need to rent a bigger fridge to house all of these plates. Break out the Saran and push it on your guests as they are leaving! I think this "don't bring anything cause you will mess dearly with my Mexican night" is funny. Kind of makes the hostess look a bit......controlling.

Soooo true. My sister ALWAYS gives people plates of food from dinner and desserts to take home. I am always afraid I won't have enough food so I usually have tons of it.
That is why they created the Ziploc and Glad containers-lol!!

didn't you have to add up all the checks when you deposited them into the bank or did you just shove them all under the teller's window and told her not to tell you the total amount?

Stressed out over someone bringing dessert? LOL. Why do I picture this irate controlling hostess in the other room twisting her apron in her hand while the guests walk in with strawberry shortcakes?
