I guess it is just a regional thing. I have never, in the past 20 years I have gone to weddings, ever go to one that was a cash bar. There was one that had a tip jar on the bar and I thought that was digusting.
I agree. If the host says not to bring anything after she is asked can the guest bring something, then I wouldn't. OTOH, to have a guest bring something and the host is totally surprised should not give her an anxiety attack.
