"Even my casual dinners are planned out. For example, we are having a family dinner next friday night.I am making chicken mole, rice, tortillas and assorted garnishments and salads, along with a tres leche cake for dessert. I dont want people bringing food that takes away from that menu. I am also planning a large barbecue/party later in the month-I am already hard at work planning that menu, which so far includes slow roasted ribs with a homemade cherry barbecue sauce, spiced roast corn, 3 different salads, 3 different apps and 2 different desserts. Everything I choose for the menu will complement the other items, and I really prefer guests not mess it up by bringing something after being asked not to"

That sounds delicious....but what if the item of food didn't "mess up" your theme?

Its hard to imagine that it wouldnt, considering the time and effort I take to plan my menus. If I plan for 3 salads, I dont really want an extra one, even if it happens to *work* with the theme.

I think its important that a guest respect the wish of the hostess when it comes to bringing things. If I tell my guests *no thankyou*, I think its rather rude for them to override my wishes in that regard. That said, I would certainly never refuse to serve a dish my guest brought and would never say anything to them about not being thrilled that they brought it.

Anytime!

Last week I had a family dinner and I grilled halibut that I had marinated in a beer/soy sauce combination, along with white rice, couscous, a mozzerella/tomato/basil salad, a green salad, garlic bread and blueberry buckle with vanilla ice cream for dessert :o)

I get a lot of pleasure out of planning and preparing dinners and having parties-you should see me at Christmas, I'm a total nutcase about it! I guess its appropriate that I am writing a cookbook, lol!

Your food sounds amazing! Let me know when your cookbook comes out. I am definately interested in getting it.

I used to host parties more often. Now that we are getting a pool, I will be doing so often, I am sure. I adore good, healthy food! Salads are typically my favorite. Your family is lucky to have you to cook those amazing dishes for them.

Oh you are sweet! Someday I hope my kids will appreciate it-right now most of the time they think a lot of what I make is *yuck*. Oh well!

I don't ever feel obligated as I do it as an appreciation for inviting me to your home. You are buying appetizers, dinner, dessert and drinks for me, the least I can do is bring you something to say thank you.

Very true. I only know exactly now because I still have my book. I would have definately known then too as I deposited the money in the bank.

Not really especially when they are eating them too. If not that day, after guests leave or the next day. I can't see someone getting annoyed with extra food but maybe because that is because I love food so much and all my friends and family are eaters.
