ummmm no. When I had my reception I paid a per head count - that included cocktail hour, the meal, and 5 hours of open bar, plus the extras I've previously listed. There wasn't a non-open bar price.
EXACTLY. If the hotel gave you a flat rate for a cash bar they'd lose money if you have a family of heavy drinkers....
you know what's so funny about this whole thread is that once I go to a wedding I promptly forget about it, including my own -- I've never understood the obessions with wedding planning. I remember when I was engaged I used to hate going to fittings for my gown b/c the shop was alwasy full of obsessive brides and their obsessive mothers...then years later when i was pregnant and shopping for baby furniture I found out those obsessive brides and their obsessive mothers had morphed into obsessive moms and grandmas to be!
And if you decide to do a cash bar that's factored in. I'm 41 and I've never been to a wedding that had more than an hour of open bar (and that was only one wedding) all the rest were cash bars. When you are of modest means with friends of modest means you don't waste your money on other peoples booze... LOL
Depends. Some will charge you a per head price for open bar. Others were charge you on a consumption basis. Some places give you the option to choose. If you have guests who like to drink, the per head price is often the best way to go LOL.
I understand and by no means think it's cheap esp if that's the tradition where you are. I guess in my family and social circle, we all like to drink, so we plan accordingly and have open bar instead of cash bar (which for some people, may have meant having less guests if they had a small budget).
I have definitely heard of having cash bars at weddings, I've just never personally been to one.

<I personally do not think is ok for my guests to have to bring extra money to pay for drinks>
