We had NO problem with anyone being drunk at out wedding. They might have been but no one was obnoxious to know that they were. I am sure there were alot of buzzed people there but I don't think there is any problem with that. You are there to have a good time and everyone had that as we were told how great our wedding was years later.

I questioned if you would scale back IF you lived in a pocket of the country with customs like Hazeleyes' area. You don't, so it shouldn't matter to you and your guests. Your guests were all likely fine with a cash bar. But that alone doesn't make you the only one who had a wedding in order to celebrate your nuptials with beloved family members and friends, does it?
I do too. I just don't necessarily feel that a wedding reception is the place to get falling down drunk. I think that a lot of people tend to see it that way. I went to a reception not too long ago where someone became intoxicated and vomited all over the bathroom. That is over the top imo.

An open bar doesn't mean everyone is getting drunk.
And a cash bar certainly doesn't mean guests are not getting drunk.
I don't agree with the concept of a cash bar. I think it is in poor taste.
Not everyone has to get drunk for it to be worthwhile to curb the amount of alcohol served, imo.
