Was your husband serious? Does he think he'll only have to pay for your DDs' weddings, not your sons'??

It's an insulting tradition. I was recently at a wedding where the bride's parents paid for everything. Blech.

The University of Illinois library had a display earlier this year of etiquette/manners books from the 40s, 50s, and 60s.

Um, the big deal is that we didn't want to spend two thousand dollars on alcohol on top of all our other wedding expenses????

we only invited as many people as we could afford and we still opted to go with a cash bar (after our $500 tab was used up).

"And I don't see a difference between inviting someone to my home or to a catering hall."

Neither do I. I don't serve hard liquor in my home and I wouldn't in a catering hall.

Oh, no. We served ourselves alcohol at the prom and all the chaperones looked the other way. We didn't drive, though. It was all limos.
