no comment. well maybe one....what does an open bar have to do with guests getting silly drunk? i have one friend that did take advantage of the bar...and friend would have gotten drunk with or without the open bar, too. her version of fun and a good time really does include liquor, and lots of it. ;)
I would be willing to bet, though, that people pay more attention to how much they are drinking when they have to pay per drink than when the drinks are free.
who has called you cheap? i certainly am not one who agrees that fancy plate dinners, open bars translates to showy or ses.....i grew up with very modest roots. mom,dad never believed in big christmases, big homes or the latest things because the joneses had it (yes, the keeping up with the joneses has existed forever. lol)..what we did grow up with were priorities that included where our education influence belonged much like what you consider important, our faith and italian heritage.
if there's anything to blame for the traditions i hope to continue,it's being italian. :)
Lol, is that a rhetorical question? I'd say an open bar has quite a lot to do with getting silly drunk. Not paying for drinks tends to bring out the drinker in many.
i think it depends on the habit of the guest...i doubt ms.guest who needs her cocktail to have a good time is going to curve her habit if she had to pay for her drinks nor do i think mr.guest is going to go overboard with the open bar if his habit is stopping after one or two drinks.

I agree. I have never gotten so trashed at a wedding that I made a spectacal (sp?!) of myself. I remember getting sick the next day though from drinking too much wine-lol! We had drinkers at our wedding but everyone behaved and no one got so drunk that they were obnoxious and annoying. Everyone was having fun and that is exactly what I wanted for them at my wedding.

I agree completely. Nothing good comes from free flowing alcohol.

How did all of these "buzzed" people get home?
