Have you ever seen Mystery Science Theater 3000? The shorts reels they used to play were just as hilarious as the bad movies, if not funnier. Especially any of them having to do with personal hygiene :)
And then there was The King and Queen of Posture (as well as the Prince and Princess)...yikes! LOL
then add tacky to the list of adjectives but honestly...I don't care. 1) it was 18 years ago 2) my parents and i did what we could 3)open bars are very rare aroudn here and 4)there was no way I was going to spend that much money on booze.
just as "everyone gives money" in hazel's part o the world in my part of the world 'everyone buys their own rum and coke"
They also could have been breaking several liquor laws. In NH you can notbring in alchohol to a function site and serve it under the site's liquor liscence -- it's very strictly goverened how that liquor has to be supplied.... for example we got several cases of donated wine at the theater for our private parties but we can not use them for the lobby bar nor can we even store them int he same part of the building. And they do come and check...
it was a smart money saver but in some states it could have been illegal to do that.
yet another in a long list of "tacky" things according to sm.....ah, well, whatever. We had a budget for alcohol and decided that we did not want to exceed that by 2, 3 or 4 TIMES that amount. Since we were paying the freight, we were entirely free to make that decision based on OUR finances.
That is similiar to how it was done at my sister's weddings. My dad bought all the liquor at a liquor. He had friends/relatives act as bartenders. I think that they got to keep the leftovers.
If it's at a private home or similar site I would think that would be fine but if it's done at an establishement with a liquor liscence you have to be careful. For One of the events I ran at a previous job we had an offer from a distributor to donate the wine necessary for the dinner (a formal event for $300) and we were told by the liquor commission we couldn't do so - the hotel had to buy the liquor per its liscence and charge us the corkage fee -- I remember we worked out some way to get the liquor donated but it involved a real 'work around' and actually buying the liquor and then getting reimbursed or something. it can be done but it's tricky.
"You have X bottles of A,B,C and once they're gone the bar is closed" is how we did our wedding. The guests didn't have to pay but neither did they have unlimited drinks.
