Staying at home a choice??

The author of this article thinks most mothers go to work because they want to, not because they have to.
"Most parents from two-parent families today do have a choice when it comes to parental care. They can try and talk themselves into believing they don't, but it really boils down to priorities."

Does anyone (other than her) really believe this? I don't know of anyone among my friends who works who wouldn't rather be staying at home with their children. But they don't have the choice!

No one's asking anyone to justify a purchase...just stating that it's not really necessary.
What if you could not afford a new one? I believe mm stated that she was starting out, in DC, making 18k at the time. What would you have done in those circumstances, where the money was not available? You can't pay off a credit card with money you don't have.
Everyone's entitled to their opinion and their own standards...but sometimes circumstances make us have to compromise them.
And again, how is it different from sleeping in a hotel bed? The way I see it, it's preferable. At least if it were in my house I could see that it was clean and cover it.

I would have borrowed the money from my parents. If one cant afford to purchase a mattress..one should probably not be living on their own.

The same way it is different using your own toilet vs a public toilet.

Very hard to clean a mattress. Almost impossible.
Nice that that's an option for you. Isn't for everyone.
Talk about your snotty little judgments, but whatever. Sometimes, people do what they have to do.
And oh man, I guess this means I need to go move in with my mom, because I sure couldn't afford a mattress right now if I had to. ;-)
I'm not following you on how a used bed vs. a hotel bed is like one's own toilet vs. public. Give me a minute to wake up. Maybe it'll come to me. Oop, no...minute's up. Didn't happen.
I didn't say to clean it...I said see that it was clean. Different things. If it was not, I'd sleep on the floor.

You can buy a mattress for about $200. I wouldnt be a great mattress but it would be better than nothing. You couldnt afford $200 if your mattress were to be ruined?

Well try again. What is the difference? You sleep in a hotel bed because if you are away from home it isnt an option. However you have a different standard within your home. So again tell me why comparing your own toilet to a public toilet is any different than comparing a hotel bed to your personal bed is hard to understand?

How can you see if it is clean? All sorts of body fluids one cant see in a mattress.
