Staying at home a choice??

The author of this article thinks most mothers go to work because they want to, not because they have to.

"Most parents from two-parent families today do have a choice when it comes to parental care. They can try and talk themselves into believing they don't, but it really boils down to priorities."

Does anyone (other than her) really believe this? I don't know of anyone among my friends who works who wouldn't rather be staying at home with their children. But they don't have the choice!

Yeah. I know. I just wanted to point it out yet again.

I love the look of refurbished items. They look so much better than the matchy-matchy stuff you can buy new.

Not to mention that many older things-- especially furniture was designed to last longer than the stuff you find at stores now.

Neither have I. Now, I've replaced a lot of them...but that's because my son wears them out transferring onto them. Has nothing to do with other people having used it. That's what scrubbing bubbles and Lysol are for.

I didn't ask. I'm not really sure I wanted to hear the story. ;-)

Very true. We are trying. It will take time but they will get paid off (hopefully sooner than later!).

No. If your thing is antiques or used things, then go for it. I have worked my way up from the age of 19, out of college to be able to buy nice things for my home. Most people (as least the ones I know) don't live the way they did at 18, at the age of 40. By then, you have a better job, more money and get better things.

My parents, with no animals got 20 years out of their couch. They just bought a new one a few years back. It can definately be done (especially if you have no pets or young children who destroy it).
Since my kids are getting older and the dog can not jump up on this couch, I am hoping to get 20 years out of it. So that would be about $1.75/week-$90/year. Not too bad to me.
