Staying at home a choice??

The author of this article thinks most mothers go to work because they want to, not because they have to.

"Most parents from two-parent families today do have a choice when it comes to parental care. They can try and talk themselves into believing they don't, but it really boils down to priorities."

http://backofthebook.ca/living/2007/03/part-time-ophanages-part-2-job-only.html

Does anyone (other than her) really believe this? I don't know of anyone among my friends who works who wouldn't rather be staying at home with their children. But they don't have the choice!

I am not denying what I said. I think it is gross to sleep on a used mattress in my home and I wouldnt do it. So I am not really sure where you are getting that I denied anything that I said.

Why is that? I don't find cleanliness to be an odd thing. I guess it is though as my gf is looking for homes and the real estate women told her that 90% of homes are dirty. I thought that was horrible but I know it is true from people who go and look at homes.

Oh so you thought I meant something. Well try reading what I wrote and then you wont have to think that I meant something.

<<>>

Then why didnt you ask me to specify? You just assumed that I meant a new mattress.

<<>>

Sorry, but we're all human beings. A little Comet works just as well on one toilet as another. Not only that, but it's common knowledge that when it comes to germs, nothing's dirtier than a sink. Should those be replaced, too?

Ummm, if your "owed" balance increased (and it had to, didn't it? if you bought somethign on credit) you did go deeper into debt.

You'll have to read my post again. I did not say cleanliness is an odd thing. In fact that is not the subject.

I said it was odd that everyone you know does everything you do. I think you have a habit of putting it in your posts to defend whatever you do, to prove it is normal. I do not find it believeable that everyone you know does these things exactly like you do.

In your opinion. I would be happy to lend my children money if they ever needed it. Wouldnt you?

Link please.

Please show me where I said new mattress. Yes it is ok to borrow money if you need it from your parents.

No, I still believe that as you establish yourself in life, you don't rely on the used things because you have that extra money to buy new things. I know because I have been through this on these boards already that people here don't "buy up" in life here. Kind of like a starter home (which I own and don't plan to move out of because I would rather build up if I had to). Most people my age where I live would have moved out of my house after 5 years. They make more money and buy something bigger. Same thing with cars. When you are in h.s. you get that beat up car because that is all you can afford. You go to college, get a decent job and now you can afford something more expensive. Maybe I know different kinds of people than everyone else here because where I was raised, you establish yourself and have better things as you get older. That is why our parents can drive nicer cars and buy better things. They established themselves in their jobs, got raises, got rid of the kids-lol! and could afford more things.
