Staying at home a choice??

The author of this article thinks most mothers go to work because they want to, not because they have to.

"Most parents from two-parent families today do have a choice when it comes to parental care. They can try and talk themselves into believing they don't, but it really boils down to priorities."

Does anyone (other than her) really believe this? I don't know of anyone among my friends who works who wouldn't rather be staying at home with their children. But they don't have the choice!

Let me know when you can post that link to me saying that direct quote:

If someone who could not afford a new mattress should not be living on their own

A sink does not gross me out like a toilet seat. Why do you think they make those toilet seat covers in public bathrooms? Because there is so many germs.

No. This was a 0% interest deal. It did not get me deeper into debt as I pay it in full at the end of the term. It is not a revolving debt that does not get paid off.

Wrong.

If your balance before the purchase was $1000, and after it was $2000, then you went deeper into debt. The amount owed to the cc increased due to the purchase.

Interest has nothing to do with it. You owe more now than you did before you purchased the couch, therefore you are deeper in debt. Once you've paid the cc for the couch in full, then you'll be back to where you were. So, it may not be a long-term increase in debt, but it DID increase your debt.

You learn things from family and friends and eventually everyone does it. I don't find it odd that my friends and family all change the toilet seat when they move into a new home. Do you find it odd to change the carpet too? Most people do that too (that I know of course).

I've never changed carpet when I moved in either. The houses I bought had carpet in good condition, so there was no reason to change it.

Your individual gross-outs aren't universal, you know. Why do they make those toilet seat covers in public bathrooms? Same reason they make that idiotic Purell stuff - some people are irrational when it comes to germs and cleanliness, and they'll buy anything.

When it comes to my credit report, yes it is an increased debt until the term is up. This is on a furniture store cc so it is not affecting the balance on my other cc cards. It is separate and gets paid off in full at the end of the term.

Why would I want to buy a crappy new couch, when I can buy a higher quality antique or used one for the same price? How is that "buying up?" Why do you keep insisting that new furniture is better and nicer than antique or used furniture?
