Staying at home a choice??

The author of this article thinks most mothers go to work because they want to, not because they have to.

"Most parents from two-parent families today do have a choice when it comes to parental care. They can try and talk themselves into believing they don't, but it really boils down to priorities."

Does anyone (other than her) really believe this? I don't know of anyone among my friends who works who wouldn't rather be staying at home with their children. But they don't have the choice!

Your overall debt level increased. That's the point. What kind of card it is on, interest rates, when it will be paid off ... all red herrings in determining whether or not you went deeper into debt.

No, because some people are cleaner than others. Just ask anybody who has gone house hunting. I never heard so many stories in my life of dirty homes. I would never believe it if my sister did not buy one of these homes and saw others and my gf is now looking at houses and there was only a handful of clean ones out of about 100 she has seen.

So in your thinking no one is an individual in Long Island. It is a total area of keeping up with the Joneses (doing what everyone else does) & no one really even thinks of doing anything differently than eachother? Sorry, not buying it.

In my world we learn of things that family & friends are doing & sometimes we think, wow excellent idea, we should start that. Other times, the things they do we do not approve of, or do not have the money for or do not put as high of a priority on, so it might be a good idea, but we just don't bother. It runs the gamut of possibilities.

No, I do not know of people who change the toilet seats & carpet when the move in. Many times new carpet is put in shortly before the house is marketed. Some people do not have extra money for carpet and the carpet is fine, so they wait until they have the money and/or feel the need to replace carpet. Some people would replace carpet immediately and there would be more than one reason for doing so (2 come to mind--they don't like carpet and want another kind of flooring or the carpet is very warn). This would come under INDIVIDUAL PREFERENCES, in my world. When we moved into our house we immediately bought a new dishwasher and refrigerator. Within a year we put a new roof on. If our higher priorirty was carpet, we would have spent our money on that instead. But to us the carpet looked ok (not new, but not terribly worn) and the other items were needed first. And in my world, different people tend to have different priorities of what to change in a house when the first move in. Those priorities are controlled both by funds and the actual needs in the house. There is not an unspoken rule in my world that you immediately change the carpet.

I am not saying all new furniture is good quality. You need to know what you are purchasing, just like an antique.

I'll answer--from reading her posts it's because that's what she does & what everyone she knows does also.

Then why do you insist new is better and nicer?

I understand that and if you don't pay it off within the term, you will pay the interest charges. That is why the furniture and other companies that have the same offers do it because they know the majority of people will not have the money at the end of the term.

And that is fine. I am just stating that I thought it was odd to not do these things. Unless you know the people who lived in the house very well (as I did as it was my parents), then you don't know there habits. The majority of the houses by me are updated as soon as people move in. We are still updating after 11 years, but slowly but surely, we will have everything done that we want to before we retire-lol!

Most people where you live change the carpet if they move into a new house or appartment?
