Staying at home a choice??

The author of this article thinks most mothers go to work because they want to, not because they have to.

"Most parents from two-parent families today do have a choice when it comes to parental care. They can try and talk themselves into believing they don't, but it really boils down to priorities."

Does anyone (other than her) really believe this? I don't know of anyone among my friends who works who wouldn't rather be staying at home with their children. But they don't have the choice!

Because for me it is. I take pride in my home and want it to look the best it can on a limited budget.

Most rentals, you can't. But my gf rents a home and she has redid the kitchen and changed the carpets.

Yes, most people do change the carpets. As soon as you see a house sold by me, the next thing is the carpet by the garbage!

After reading all of these posts I am very happy now to be living (soon) in military housing where you cant change anything.

Yes, but if you were to take the money you are putting aside to pay off the couch when it comes due, and pay down your other outstanding debt, you would get out of your overall debt faster. As it stands, you are having interest added every month to your outstanding debt and are getting deeper in debt by putting money aside for the couch than you would be doing if you were not saving up to pay off the couch.

I guess most people who buy near you have money.

Wouldn't you be able to afford much nicer and better things if you were willing to purchase used items? If you have $750 to spend on a couch, you could buy an okay new one or a really nice used one, for example. What does used or new have to do with having pride in your home? Do you think that people who buy used furniture do not have pride in their homes? Have you ever watched home design shows or read home design magazines?

Hopefully they will have neutral colors at least! I was watching Flip this House the other day and the lady painted the walls neon green and neon pink!!

In my adult life, I have never lived where there was a carpet to keep. Hardwood floors are the thing here. I would guess that I wouldn't keepp a carpet I didn't like, but would kkeep one I liked and was in good shape. When we were househunting, I do remember a particular gruesome orange shag carpet that I thought we would definitely have to give the heave ho if we were to buy the house.

Yes, IF I did not need the couch. I only buy things I need this way while I have the cc debt. My son will need a bed next. I can't have him sleep in a toddler bed forever-lol!

Sometimes they sell their old homes so they have the extra money from that.
