Staying at home a choice??

The author of this article thinks most mothers go to work because they want to, not because they have to.

"Most parents from two-parent families today do have a choice when it comes to parental care. They can try and talk themselves into believing they don't, but it really boils down to priorities."

Does anyone (other than her) really believe this? I don't know of anyone among my friends who works who wouldn't rather be staying at home with their children. But they don't have the choice!

I think any house that has an animal, still smells. I know somedays mine does and that is from the dog laying on the carpet all day.

We have beautiful hardwood floors in our home. I would hate them to be ruined. My son is rough with his toys and scratches everything-lol! I would LOVE to have hardwood though in there as I know it would look really nice. Right now with the kids, we will stick to the carpet.

My son is very rough with his toys. I don't want to take the chance of having deep scratches in the floor. My daughter has already scratched her floor with her chair. I would love to carpet her room as I hate seeing the scratches.

I do it and even "easier way". After much discussion and compromise, my sister and my Mother buy an outfit or two for school starting, Christmas and their birthdays (spring). As a result, I have to buy very little. Both my boys were the first grandchildren and my Mom likes to buy clothes. Now that my sister has two, it is tempered some. My sister married into a large Italian family that gifts at every possible opportunity and she wants to buy for "her side" every once in a while.

Think of it as a patina.

I understand replacing things because of allergies.

You are not alone - I replaced the toiled seat in one rental apartment because of the ick factor. Even when we built our new home, DH replaced all toilet seats on all the new toilets because we prefer the cushiony ones! Plastic or enamel are too hard on the buns after a long day. My dream seat would be the heated cushiony ones, but I don't know if they make those.
