Staying at home a choice??

The author of this article thinks most mothers go to work because they want to, not because they have to.

"Most parents from two-parent families today do have a choice when it comes to parental care. They can try and talk themselves into believing they don't, but it really boils down to priorities."

Does anyone (other than her) really believe this? I don't know of anyone among my friends who works who wouldn't rather be staying at home with their children. But they don't have the choice!

I just got all new living room furniture. We kept the loveseat and coffee table to put in the rec room, but the sleeper sofa went to my coworker. She was THRILLED to have it ... even though it is 14 years old and on it's second set of upholstery.

Oh yeah, same here. I come from a long line of crazy clean freaks, and it's a life-robbing illness as far as I'm concerned. Clean enough is clean enough, all across the board. Besides, it isn't green to be filling up the landfills with perfectly okay toilet seats!

The only problem I ever had with hardwood was when my sister's puppy chewed a big hole in my dining room floor. That's really more a puppy problem than a floor problem, though.LOL Kid stuff, even with the wheelchair, has not been a problem.

In post http://messageboards.ivillage.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=iv-pssahwoh&msg=17738.1219

You stated "Sorry...but a used mattress within my home would consitute that being thrown out and it would be necessary to purchase a new one."

In post http://messageboards.ivillage.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=iv-pssahwoh&msg=17738.1215

You stated "Before I slept on that mattress I would have bought a mattress regardless of the interest rate on the card. You dont need to justify buying a new mattress."

You are correct, in your post of "I would have borrowed the money from my parents. If one cant afford to purchase a mattress..one should probably not be living on their own." you did not use the word new. But it is very obvious from your previous posts that that was what you were talking about since (according to you) a used mattress is unacceptable. If sleeping on a used matress is unacceptable then buying a used matress would also be unacceptable.

different strokes. I go once per season -- summer & winter and then I'm basically done.

Pergo isn't wood though, it's fake. (Laminate.) I'm not sure about Armstrong, but I think it's laminate too.

To me that shows that you don't take care of your home. Just my opinion. I don't mind the toys when they are playing but I don't see why they need to destroy the house. I came from a clean home and I want my children to live in a clean home. They don't realize it now because kids don't but they will when they have a home of their own.

I agree with you. Fortunately (or maybe unfortunately!) we don't stay in many hotels.

Either it doesn't fit their decor or it might smell or look so bad. Cleaning sometimes doesn't take all the stains out. We cleaned our daughter's carpet and the stains just reappeared. We eventually ripped it out.

What do scratches have to do with cleanliness?
