Staying at home a choice??

The author of this article thinks most mothers go to work because they want to, not because they have to.

"Most parents from two-parent families today do have a choice when it comes to parental care. They can try and talk themselves into believing they don't, but it really boils down to priorities."

http://backofthebook.ca/living/2007/03/part-time-ophanages-part-2-job-only.html

Does anyone (other than her) really believe this? I don't know of anyone among my friends who works who wouldn't rather be staying at home with their children. But they don't have the choice!

It shows you don't really care what your home looks like. I know scratches can happen anywhere but if there is alot of them, then you are not preventing them. To me, that means you don't care about having a clean home either.

A hardwood floor with a few scratches isn't necessarily dirty. It just has scratches. I'm willing to bet most carpeted floors are a lot dirtier than most hardwood floors with a few scratches.

I am sure the carpets probably are. The point is if someone does not care for something in their house, they probably don't care about alot of other things. Maybe I am just too anal as I want a clean house. Everything needs to be in its place when we leave the house so I don't come home to a mess. I also like everything cleaned up before I go to bed so I don't get overwhelmed in the morning cleaning up.
I was brought up in a very, neat, spotless home. My dh was brought up in a dirty, sloppy home. I am helping him to get more organized but he still is a slob-lol! My dd is EXACTLY like him and it drives me nuts. My son is a little more like me so at least I'll have one on my side-lol!

Actually you are increasing your debt because you are not using that money to pay down your credit cards even more. So while you might be getting 0% interest on your couch loan, you still have interest accruing on those credit cards. Any financial advisor would tell you the exact same thing.

None of which has anything to do with a couple of scratches on a hardwood floor being dirty.

You can also get nice used furniture for not a lot of money, sometimes better quality than new. I dont think anyone was discussing *stained raggedy old couches*, were they? I thought we were discussing that its possible to get some really nice used items for a fraction of what ANY new item would cost. Go check out Craigslist, you might be surprised.

It is TOO wood. It is ALL wood ... it's just reconstituted and glued together, lol. It's wood, but not hardwood.

And it's a HELL of a lot cheaper.

We only use Armstrong Swiftlock in the Farmhouse Hickory unless the original hardwoods are still in repairable condition. The Armstrong floors are really great floors.

I've said this before, I'd rather live in the Weasley's house than the Dursley's house.

So.. if you're that anal retentive about your home, isn't everyone just itching to leave all of the time? Not worrying about a few scratches does not = not taking care of one's home.
