Staying at home a choice??

The author of this article thinks most mothers go to work because they want to, not because they have to.

"Most parents from two-parent families today do have a choice when it comes to parental care. They can try and talk themselves into believing they don't, but it really boils down to priorities."

Does anyone (other than her) really believe this? I don't know of anyone among my friends who works who wouldn't rather be staying at home with their children. But they don't have the choice!

Isn't there another room in the house for them to play in?

Not to mention, real hardwood floors can be refinished and look brand new.

Because IMO millionaires take the long view - looking at net worth, not the income statement.

Well believe it. I'm doing just that. I have a $2400 balance, 0% interest until January, on my Lowe's card. That $2400 is sitting in my money market account earning just under 5% interest right now. With daily compounding, it will earn me over $120 while it is sitting there.

<>

People who choose this scenario, like me, DO have it. They're just choosing to make it work for them before they spend it.

<>

If I had a small balance in that money market, I'd be right there with you. But, my balance in my MM is 10x the balance I owe on the card. I'm not too worried that I can't pay it off 8 months from now.

doubtful; you'd not be physically able to have children if you were too young for that reference.

Uhh no. Not too young. My 10yo could get that reference.

Lemme see...we have three rooms with couches. The couch in the family room downstairs is definitely ready to be replaced after thirty years. The couch in the den, my in-laws bought when they retired in the 1950s. It still looks pretty good. We bought a new couch for our living room when we moved in in 2000. It gets used rather seldom -- maybe one or two nights a week for a couple of hours, I think it will be in great shape to hand down to one of our children when we are ready to downsize.

We are not the type of people who have had to buy a lot of furniture.
