Staying at home a choice??

The author of this article thinks most mothers go to work because they want to, not because they have to.

"Most parents from two-parent families today do have a choice when it comes to parental care. They can try and talk themselves into believing they don't, but it really boils down to priorities."

Does anyone (other than her) really believe this? I don't know of anyone among my friends who works who wouldn't rather be staying at home with their children. But they don't have the choice!

I slept on a futon, which I bought used (from a friend) for many years. Half the world doesn't sleep on mattresses and box springs. Calling a new mattress a "necessity" is absurd.

We all have different definitions of necessity when it comes to personal items. Dont you think?

I'm going to go out on a limb here... I haven't read any other responses so that my view is not impacted by others, and my initial reaction is that I agree - it is a choice.

Let me explain - I understand that some THINK they have no choice, but that is only because we are conditioned to be limited in our thinking. We are taught to go to school, get good grades, go to college, get a good paying career. We just don't see alternatives to this "master plan".

I don't know how many of you have seen The Secret, but I have been studying The Law of Attraction for several years before the movie came out. If you choose to learn about this law, start with The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace D Wattles (I can give you a copy if you want one). When you really understand the LOA, you understand that YOU have the ability to control and create your own reality. Everything is a choice - even the ones you feel that you are forced to make.

Is that what you got from my post -- that I'm bragging about how wealthy my friends are?

I agree. I have been researching things actually today on how to pay down the cc debt and to save money so I am thinking about it.

Well, the word "necessity" *does* have a literal meaning. And it's not "everybody else has one" or "I would really prefer to have one."

Don't be. They're happy. That's far more important to them.

Truly, they don't need your pity.
