Staying at home a choice??

The author of this article thinks most mothers go to work because they want to, not because they have to.

"Most parents from two-parent families today do have a choice when it comes to parental care. They can try and talk themselves into believing they don't, but it really boils down to priorities."

Does anyone (other than her) really believe this? I don't know of anyone among my friends who works who wouldn't rather be staying at home with their children. But they don't have the choice!

um,shall we resurrect a needs vs wants sort of thread again? lol....what some can afford for their children, for themselves are indeed classified as needs here. i don't agree with some of it which is why i clearly included "to each, really their own" in my post...if you think a trip to mexico is a necessity for yourself,go right ahead and stand behind it. i don't agree but do agree my mode of transportation is a need even though i'm sure i could find some sort of alternate means of transportation if i couldn't afford it.

Do you know what the word "necessity" means?

I am not arguing that you shouldn't have a car or a trip to Mexico if you want one. But that's not what the word means.

I most certainly do not think a trip to Mexico is a need. I don't think what determines a need is based upon whether one can afford it or not ... as you obviously do.

In fact, I don't think I've ever heard anyone else use that criteria to determine need or non-need.

Yes, but how often does that need to be done?

My son is very rough with his toys, dropping them, scratching them on the floor. My daughter scratched up her floor with her chair. I don't want my only "living area" floor to be all scratched up between the toys and the dog.

I do not let my boys bring their cars and trucks inside. Really, the potential for oil leaks alone on any kind of indoor flooring is quite off-putting. By the time they are old enough to drive, they are certainly old enough to know that it is inappropriate to bring their vehicles into the house.

Maybe it's your kids that are too young.
